Sicilia en Primeur 2016, welcome to the future!

Sicily, and its 2015 vintage, is now just a nose length away. To be sure, this is no easy task, evaluating something which at the moment has only seven months of life. The future needs to be projected into, a judgment on how the wines will be in five, ten, twenty years is needed, and it is a very large responsibility. A large competence is needed, and much experience as well, along with an ability to judge and forsee the future the wines’ capability to develop and improve: the wine together with the person who created it. Because, in the final analysis, the two things are one. To think about a wine as though it were immortal is a quality which only a few producers possess. Given these premises, the answer is, and will remain, in the glass itself. Therefore, let’s go to work.
First of all, 100 journalists of the world’s wine press from all of the globe, along with 50 Italians, will come to discover this vintage. A true privilege. Then, starting on Saturday the 23rd of April, the larger public as well. 800 different labels subdivided among 20 appellations, 34 grape varieties, both indigenous and international, and a territory with over 250,000 acres (101 thousand hectares) planted to vines. Not exactly an insignificant number because, let’s keep it in mind, Sicily has Italy’s largest area under vine. A large task awaits.
The experts will be inspired by a trip through eight different zones of Sicily, eight tours to discover the territory and the characteristics of its soil and climate.
