Beatrice Giammusso, a small but determined lady from Catania who was suddenly left as a widow, decided in 2007 to move to Caltanissetta and listen to one of her children, who had just finished his university studies in economics and suggested, insistently, that she open a business. And this because, according to his research, in the area around the city of Caltanissetta there were important margins of growth in the hospitality sector.
Beatrice was convince by his advice, made the decision, but had to begin from nothing. She purchased the building and began a Bed & Breakfast operation with the name of Antichi Ricordi. Today the activity consists of 20 rooms with a formula of an “extended hotel” (an hotel with a series of different structures) and SPA facilities (massages, a turkish bath, hydromassages etc.).
More than “rooms”, we are dealing with “design suites” given the size of the accommodations and the aesthetic interest – of a notable level – of the architectural solutions devised. The hotel, in a strategic position, is located on the corner of two streets, via XX Settembre and Corso Umberto I. The structure extends along three small streets in the heart of the “Provvidenza” quarter and is characterized by a rustic style with its terracotta floors and beamed ceilings. Several suites have a patio or balcony or a complete dining area with facilities for cooking. Each and every room has the name of a mine and, with its decor and furnishing and the works or photographs of various Caltanissetta artists, recalls the mines and sulfur pits which are a fundamental part of the history of the interior of Sicily.
Though classified in the “luxury” category, the prices are affordable: we reserved a double room with breakfast included for less than 80 euro per night.
