The “Progetto da Pantelleria” award has been assigned posthumously to Giacomo Rallo. The recognition given to the recently deceased founder of Donnafugata was received by his son Antonio, winemaker for the family estate that counts on 68 hectares of vineyards on Pantelleria and produces the Passito Ben Ryé, one of the Italian sweet wines that is most appreciated at an international level.
“Giacomo Rallo of Donnafugata – the motivation states – was a protagonist of the wine scene and with his passionate commitment he led the wine of his beloved Pantelleria into the world”.
Chaired by journalist Italo Cucci, the tenth edition of the Award which is an eagerly awaited appointment during the Pantelleria summer took place on 12 August in the striking setting of the Medieval Castle.
Designed by the online newspaper Pantelleria Internet, “Progetto da Pantelleria” pays tribute to those who love the island and with their entrepreneurial or artistic commitment have made it famous worldwide.
The exceptional award winner of the 2016 edition was the actor Luca Zingaretti who, for years, has chosen the island as his buen retiro and has been very involved in protecting its environment.
