What is the current situation in Sicily?

Currently there is a lower diffusion of contagion in Sicily than in the rest of Italy (DASOE DATA) and Local health authoritiesare monitoring the situation closely. In compliance with the latest national regulations and the local Government ordinances, all citizens and visitors are requested to follow these rules:

  • Limit your travel within the regional territory
  • Stay at least one meter away from other people and avoid crowded places. The ban on public and outdoor gatherings is still in place
  •  Wash your handsoften
  • Arm yourself with suitable personal protective equipment (masks) in public places, children under six are excepted.
  • If you have a fever over 37.5 degrees, you are strongly recommended to stay home and limit social contacts as much as possible. You should also call your doctor.
  • People who have been quarantined or have tested positive for COVID-19 are absolutely prohibited from leaving their home.

Are all the connections from and to Sicily working?

At the present travelling to and from Sicily is not allowed. Only foreign tourists and Italians who must return to their home-places, or travel for proven work needs, emergencyor health reasons are allowed to travel writing a downloadable self-certification model. Please download it here
Anyone returning to Sicily has to register his presence on the dedicated website: www.siciliacoronavirus.it and to declare his presence on the Island to his doctor, to sanitary services and to the municipality of  his town. It is required a compulsory period of isolation at home.

Are touristic facilities, bathing establishments, bars and restaurants open?

Touristic facilities, bathing establishments, restaurants, bars and tourism service providers are going to re-openin maximum security in order to ensure the health.

Are archaeological parks, museums and public gardens open?

Parks and public gardens are accessible in respect of a safe distance and the absolute prohibition on gatherings of people. There will be a gradual re-opening of Archaeological parks and cultural sites outdoors are being organized for a gradual reopening with regulated access.  Starting from 25 May,there will be a gradual reopening of museums, cultural centers and art places.

Are theaters and cinemas open?

From 8 June there will be a gradual reopening of open-air theatres and cinemas. From that date, nightclubsreopen and meetings will be permitted. At the present time public and private meetings and events are allowed unless they comply with the distancing of the public.

Which activities and shops are currently open in Sicily?

Post offices, banks,drugstores,newsagents,stationeries,bookshops, shops of all kinds, malls and outlets, streets markets, exhibitions and hobby markets, craft activities and shops for the care of person as hairdressers, barber shops and beauty salons are open. Keep the distance from other people at all time, use face masks and remember about the ban on gatherings of people. On Sundays all commercial activities are closed except for drugstores and newsagents, bars, home delivery services of foodstuffs and of essential goods. Beauty and thermalcentres are still closed.

Is public transport working regularly?

Movement within the island is allowed with the requirement to observe all the measures to prevent the spread of contagion. Extra-urban scheduled transport provides links within the Region with some reductions in rides. The urban line of public transport is also subject to a reduction of the runs, the service is guaranteed from 6.00 to 21.00. Therefore, you should always check the Companies websites before leaving. To protect all passengers, it is required to collaborate by rigorously observing social distancing measures, use face masks and pay particularly attention to the ban on gatherings.

May I do sport activity in Sicily?

Yes, outdoor and indoor individual sports and activities are allowed also in gym and sports clubs respecting social distancing and you must not gather in groups. Starting from 25th of May swimming pools will be reopened. All sporting events and competitions are cancelled or postponed both in public and private places.
