DOC Etna Rosso, Guardiola 2014 – Alta Mora, Cusumano
Alta Mora is Diego and Alberto Cusumano’s new winery on the Etna volcano, and is located in the Verzella – Pietramarina area, near the town of Castiglione di Sicilia.
Lying underground for three quarters of its premises, the winery started producing with the 2014 grape harvest. The facility joins together the concepts of aesthetics, modernity and efficiency, and boasts a comfortable wine tasting room, as well as a guest-house retrieved from an old rural building. Besides the Etna Bianco and Etna Rosso DOC, two more special labels have been produced that recall the districts on the northern side of the volcano: Feudo di Mezzo and Guardiola. The Guardiola 2014 is worth being mentioned, although it was only tasted as a vessel sample. Tense and varietal, with hints of red fruit, boxwood and Mediterranean scrub, it boasts fine and elegant tannins, and a very pleasant compact weave. Expected to be launched on the marked between summer and autumn 2016.
